Which databases do you check?

Crossref (160M+ scholarly records), OpenAlex, PubMed for biomedical literature, and CourtListener for US case law. Every verdict lists exactly which databases were consulted for that reference.

What does “not found” actually mean?

It means we could not locate the reference in any of the databases we consulted — nothing more. It is not an accusation. Coverage has gaps: books without ISBNs, non-English scholarship, gray literature, and very recent works may be real but unindexed.

What does a “partial” verdict mean?

We found a real source that closely matches, but some cited fields differ — a wrong year, a misspelled title, swapped authors. The card shows a field-by-field diff and a corrected citation you can copy.

Do I need an account?

No. Checking is anonymous. An email is only needed if you want to save a shareable report.

Do you store what I paste?

Pasted text is processed to produce verdicts and is not stored unless you explicitly save a report. Saved reports live behind an unguessable link, are excluded from search engines, and expire automatically.

Which citation styles are supported?

Any style — APA, MLA, Chicago, IEEE, Vancouver, Bluebook. We parse identifiers and bibliographic fields rather than relying on any one format.
